to:
The
Lothian Employability Forum
There are currently around 40 organisations in Edinburgh and the Lothians
whose remit includes assisting people with disabilities into employment,
training or work experience. With such a diverse range of services,
in 1994, there was an agreed recognition that the sector had to develop
an operational framework whereby:
- Employer and labour market information could be shared.
- More targeted employer marketing activity could be supported.
- Good practice, information and experience could be exchanged.
- Shared resources could be developed and maintained.
- The sector as a whole could be promoted as a professional recruitment
resource to both service users and employers.
The Forum has moved forward on all these issues although, everyone
would agree there is still some way to go until we have a fully "joined
up" service.
The Lothian Employability Forum has been instrumental in developing
a number of specific resources, products and events over the past few
years, including:
- Two Action Guides on Employing People with Disabilities - one aimed
at employers and the other at people with disabilities.
- The
Service Link Online Database - a password protected online database
of shared employer information. Members of the Forum can use this
as part of the marketing and research activities for employer placements.
- Vacancy
Link - a free vacancy circulation service for Lothian employers
to allow them to promote their vacant posts directly to people with
disabilities.
- Training and Information Events including:
- Business Sector Recruitment Practices
- Employment Law
- Joint Conferences with employers
