Support to Local Authorities
Both the City of Edinburgh Council and Midlothian Council are taking
a proactive lead in developing initiatives to 'join-up' the numerous
services who offer employability services to disadvantaged local groups.
City
of Edinburgh Council
Through it's "Joined
Up for Jobs" (JUFJ) initiative, delivered through the Capital
City Partnership, Edinburgh is leading the way at looking at processe
and resources that will allow intermediary agencies to work more effectively
with each other to offer jobseekers a seamless route into employment.
Intowork has secured funding from the City of Edinburgh Council to research
and develop a "Primary Intermediary Model" to effectively
link up agencies that provide services to people with disabilities and
to look at ways in which the local Employment
Academies can become more accessible to disabled clients.
Midlothian
Council
In Midlothian, Intowork provides development
assistance to the Midlothian
Employment Action Network (MEAN).
MEAN is a network of employment intermediaries, working with people
who face obstacles when seeking and retaining work.
The network aims to:
- Develop better information materials
- Create new employment-focused services
- Commit to more collaborative ways of working
- Promote the business benefits of employing people
currently excluded from or marginalized in the labour market
MEAN and its member organisations work on behalf
of:
- People of all ages who have been out of work a
long time, or lack qualifications, or need help to improve basic skills
to meet the needs of the modern workplace
- People with disabilities or long-term health problems
- People who have had drug or alcohol related problems
- People who have offended, been homeless, or come
through the Care System
- Lone carers
- People who are unemployed and 50+
