Intowork provides services to 4 local authority areas:


THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

The City of Edinburgh Council has a commitment to assisting people disadvantaged in the labour market back into employment. It's newest initiatives to facilitate this are through its Employment Academies and its Joined Up for Jobs initiative.

Various departments within the Council also support this commitment by delivering services and supporting projects which assist people with disabilities to access and retain employment. These include:

Social Work's Supported Employment Team
The Team provides employment and support service to people with disabilities and people with other special needs. This includes pre-employment and in-employment support and marketing to employers. The Team also administers a number of Workstep places and assists people with or recovering from mental health problems through the Open Employment Scheme.

These initiatives provide advice, guidance and counselling, practical jobsearch assistance and access to training.


MIDLOTHIAN COUNCIL

Midlothian Council is the major provider of services and largest employer in the Midlothian area. The Council is committed to 'equality of opportunity' in the local labour market and delivers a number of specific services and supports specialist projects, assisting people with disabilities resident within its catchment area. (see below). It is also in the process of developing a Midlothian Employment Action Network with the aim of 'joining up' local providers of employment support to people from all groups who are significantly distanced from the labour market. New Deal Environment Task Force

The New Deal Environment Task Force exists to offer practical work placement activity. Clients gain work experience, with the aim of moving into employment during or after the course.

Client Eligibility: Clients should be referred by Jobcentre Plus, via Action for Employment, be aged 18-24 and resident in the Midlothian, East Lothian or Edinburgh areas. This course is suitable for lone parents, people with a disability, people managing substance abuse, ex-offenders, or anyone who comes within any of the other New Deal eligibility criteria

The course lasts for 13 weeks. Clients get benefits plus assistance with travel expenses while you are on the course.

If you are interested then contact Jobcentre Plus in the first instance. They will check your eligibility and arrange an information session and interview through Action For Employment.

The Orchard Centre
The centre offers a supportive environment for people with or recovering from mental health problems. It provides information and advice on education, training, employment issues and welfare benefits

EAST LOTHIAN COUNCIL

The Council operates its own supported employment service, managed by the Department of Social Work and Housing.

East Lothian Vocational Opportunities Service (ELVOS) offers a comprehensive service to people with a range of different disabilities, and works extensively with employers to support this process.

Elements of the service include:

  • Pre employment advice and support for people seeking employment
  • Advising employers and providing recruitment and selection assistance
  • Delivering on-going workplace support to employee and employer for as long as this is required

West Lothian Council

West Lothian Council is committed to helping people resident within its area who are disadvantaged within the labour market - including people with disabilities. It operates and supports a number of dedicated services and projects which can provide guidance and assistance to people with disabilities seeking or wishing to maintain employment.

New Deal Gateway
Gateway advice as part of the New Deal initiative. This can incorporate training needs assessment, personal profiling and action planning, educational guidance and employment counselling, access to Adult Basic Education, and, jobsearch and on-going support.
